Sam Bush Concert

at the Gothic Theater

March 24th - Wow!  What an awesome concert.  Sam's Band was great.  They kicked things off with some Marley tunes and was full of surprises like Prince's 1999 and the Rolling Stones Jumpin' Jack Flash.  He really worked hard - 3 hours straight - no breaks.

I slipped the bass player a CD with 3 of my mandolin tunes that I wanted Sam to hear.  He's been such a big influence in my mandolin playing and singing.

Gypsy Mandolin at Fratelli's

I took a mandolin class at Swallow Hill music with Charlie Provenza.  I caught Charlie and Gordon Schrag at Fratelli's on Thursday and Saturday before the Sam Bush concert.  Two of the greatest mandolin players in one evening!

I had to pickup Gypsy Mandolin's new CD Giant Tarantella.  I setup a temporary website for Gypsy Mandolin Friday.  Click here to check it out!

March 23rd - Dysfunction Junction Gig at the Falling Rock Tap House

What a fun night!  The busiest night I can remember there.  It was like the

Mardi Gras gig in Boulder.  From the moment we stepped on stage the

crowd inched its way off the dance floor and onto the stage.

I brought my new 5 string electric mandolin and rocked out.  I also met

some great people in the crowd - hope to see them again at the gigs.  I

updated the Dysfunction Junction site at www.dysfunk.net with more

pictures from the gig.

Stephen Bennett at Olde Town Pickin' Parlor

Stephen Bennett is a master on the guitar and one of the few Harp

Guitar players around.  He had a show at the Olde Town Pickin' Parlor.

Unfortunately, I had my show that evening, but I went there before

he started and watched his soundcheck.   Wow!  What an amazing

player.  He played some killer slide guitar.  He was nice enough to

check out my Harp Guitar and give me some pointers on how to

tune it up.  I wish I was able to see the concert.  Next time...

Maybe by then I'll have a clue on how to even consider playing

the harp guitar.

In the Studio - On Wednesday the 21st, I went into the studio to record

an inventory of demos.  Unfortunately, I am still recovering from my

sore throat, but I managed to squeak my way through another 12 songs!

I plan to give it to a producer so we can begin planning my debut CD.

St. Patty's Day Weekend

Friday night Dysfunction Junction played at the Falling Rock.  On St. Patty's Day we played at Dick's Last Resort.  I forgot my steel at home the entire weekend and played Weissenborn with Rob's bottleneck slide.  Friday night we had a great group of dancers from Colorado Springs.  I did a solo set with my mandola and mandolin.

I received a postcard from the ranger I met while I was snowmobiling through Yellowstone on New Year's Eve.  I had sent him a CD and it was totally cool to hear back from him.

March 9th - Falling Rock Gig

This was another special gig, because of some surprise visits from some of my old co-workers.  It was great having them at the table right in front of the stage as well as getting them on the stage!

I was still recovering from my sore throat and cough, but managed to squeak through a short solo set.

March 2nd - Falling Rock Gig

For me, the Falling Rock gig was special, because I did my own set which included several songs I had arranged on the Hawaiian Weissenborn.  The crowd really took to the songs.

I can't really look up at the crowd when I'm singing and playing the instrument, so occasionally I'd glance up and see if people were into it.  It was great fun.  I also brought out the Danelectro that has been converted to a cittern.

March 3rd - Songwriter Showcase

We started the showcase at Olde Town Music with wine tasting.  Even Dutch came out to play a new tune.

The party and music continued at my house.  Great fun, food and company.  I got a chance to hear songwriters that I had met in Boulder the week before.

Even my new cousin showed up to join in the fun.  Isn't she beautiful?

Sunday, I drove up to Devil's Thumb Ranch, just past the Winter Park area to break in the new snowshoes.  Unfortunately, this was the beginning of my sore throat and cold coming back to knock me out again...
