March
10th & 11th - CabinJam
Zebra
Junction had arrived at Glen Isle Cabins in Bailey on Friday and already
recorded a few hours of music. I arrived on Saturday with
friends. The snowfall made driving risky and I was worried about the
guests we were expecting. We had brought three digital
recording studios and several microphones, however, Micah decided one unit
and two mics placed high in the room was all that was needed to capture
the magic or mayhem. |
The
Glen Isle Resort recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Micah
and I partook in the history.

We
had over a dozen players in a cozy cabin room with all the instruments and
recording gear. |
After
dinner, we headed up to Shawn and Micah's cabin and the musicians were
already jammin' away. The night was filled with some incredible jams
of motown, soul, blues, folk and rock tunes. At times there were
several mandolins jamming with the guitars, drums, bass, as well as some
incredible flute playing. The caliber of musicianship and singers
was truly incredible! I added some of my wacky instruments, but
spent more time just kickin' back and listening. |
|
I
woke up and went for a snowshoe hike. After Heather cooked us
breakfast, it was a lazy relaxing Sunday afternoon. I flipped
through my journal from my Hawaii trip on found the line Touch the Moon
and wrote the words and music to the song in a matter of a half
hour. I recorded it with Shawn and Micah later that night. |

The
snow continued to fall and we went for a great hike right outside our
cabins.

|
Despite
the dangerous road conditions, the weekend was successful and we captured
about 12 hours of music, 6 hours of video and burned lots of wood!
We hope to do this every couple of months.
Stay
tuned for all the pictures, recordings and videos as they roll in over the
next few weeks. |
